Real talk… depression sucks.
It makes getting out of bed a full-on chore. And then you have to deal with your parents, friends, and teachers??
Just no.
Sometimes it feels like you’re not even there. Like that mask you’ve created has completely overtaken you causing you to feel lost and you don’t even have the energy to find who you are anymore. You wake up, feeling numb, go to school and stand in a circle with your friends. Then you go to basketball practice. After you come home and text that boy you’ve completely friend zoned but seems to be the only one that notices you’re “off.” On weekends your friends go to parties to flirt with older boys (who are complete D-Bags) so after you’ve worked 9 hours at Denny’s you just go home. And you find yourself on the bathroom floor crying hysterically because it’s the ONLY emotion you seem to feel these days. And then you repeat the cycle week after week. Sound familiar or was this just me at 17 years old?
I know, I know, so many adults think they get it. And maybe they do, to some level.
I’m not about to sit here and pretend I get what it’s like for you exactly, but I want to. I want you to help me understand what your life is like. Because get this… depression doesn’t have to be a life sentence.
This is where I come in. I got you.
We can learn ways to embrace the small victories and take baby steps together until you learn to breathe a little easier.
So how can therapy with me help?
First of all, I’m not your mom. I’m not your friend or a teacher. I have no skin in the game, no hidden agenda.
I’m someone who can genuinely listen, free of judgement, to even the craziest thoughts. Then I can offer you real and helpful feedback. Maybe a different way of looking at things that serves you better. And finally, I can teach you how to fight things like depression using these, and all the other techniques I’ve learned over the years as a therapist.
This series is meant for you to learn through my own experiences while educating you on why therapy can be super powerful.
