Shawn Burton has now joined the Safe Space Counseling Team in Akron, Ohio!! Welcome Shawn!
Shawn is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Ohio who has been in the mental health field since 1998. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Kent State University in their Counselor Education and Supervision program.
Shawn has worked in academia for the past 6 years. He has taught at the undergraduate-level at Kent State University, and at the graduate-level at Youngstown State University, Malone University, and currently adjunct instructor at John Carroll University. Shawn is also an active member of American Counseling Association and Ohio Counseling Association. He has published articles and presented at state, national, and international conferences on mental health and career issues.
Shawn practices a holistic and integrative approach to counseling. He stresses the importance of creating a strong working relationship between the client and himself. He values working together with clients while respecting everyone's individuality and ability to achieve a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle. He is devoted to providing a supportive, healthy environment to reach the client’s full potential.
Shawn is also LGBTQQIA affirmative and an advocate of multiculturalism. He works with teenagers from 14-19, college students, and adults on an array of personal, clinical, and career related issues, such as: anxiety, depression, academic & career issues, gender identity & sexuality issues, etc. He feels counseling is a personal and powerful tool that can be used to help you on your journey through life.

Amy has a specialization in gender counseling. Both Amy and Logan will work with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with gender related concerns or process.
